Amy Shawcross, Innovative LIFE Options Staff

I have been involved in the Disability Community since 2002, and have filled a number of roles in that time; from Advocate, Board Member, Advisor, and Facilitator to Project and Program Coordinator. From 2003 to 2010, I was a support network member for an In the Company of Friends Employer, as well as a newer member on a second support network more recently. These relationships have formed my values and belief systems and made me into the person I am today; I am forever grateful for that. I will miss being involved in the important roles network members have to offer, but I am excited to pursue my involvement in employers and their network’s lives in this new capacity.

I have been independently employed as a Community Facilitator since 2007.  My strong interest in advocacy, safety and the prevention of abuse for people labelled with an Intellectual Disability has led me to roles as Project Facilitator for Community Living Winnipeg, in projects such as Walking a Woman’s Path and the Winnipeg Safety Network. I have facilitated women's and girl's groups, PATH’s and other strategic planning sessions, as well as workshops on; self-advocate empowerment, safety, abuse, rights and responsibilities awareness, and communication. As I move into this role of Resource Coordinator I look forward to meeting all the people who make-up the intricate networks of support each ICOF Employer has created. Whether you are an employer, a network member, a family member, a DSP, or a LIFE staff member, each of us has an important role to play; I am excited to see what gift each of you brings to the table! My gift, well we will have to wait and see, you never know what a new role will bring out in a person.
